Introduction
“Yemen
International Telecommunications Co. – TeleYemen” was formed in 1990
as a joint company owned by Yemen’s Public Telecommunication
Corporation (PTC) and Cable and Wireless Plc. As the contract period
has expired on December 31st 2003, PTC bought out all
Cable & Wireless shares and signed an agreement with
FranceTelecom SA
to operate TeleYemen for five years to come starting from 1st
January 2004.
The new managements
goals are to restructure TeleYemen, develop and enhance its
businesses to go on line with the International Standards.
TeleYemen’s
objectives are to :

Provide quality telecommunication services that meet the needs of
the community in Yemen.

Achieve a reasonable return which enables TeleYemen to continue
infrastructure enhancement with the latest technology for the
benefit of its customers and the development of the country .

Build
a reputation of excellence to ensure the continued success in a
challenging world of telecommunications.
TeleYemen offers its customers a variety of services
including, direct international telephone, Dawli prepaid calling card,
Internet, telex, telegraph, Inmarsat, leased circuits, and data
transmission services.
Brief History :
January 1990
The new TeleYemen was formed (with more than 300 staff).
September 1991
A
new international telex exchange was installed to cope with the
increase of telex customers and also to provide a Dial-Up telex
service.
May
1992
A
new cellular mobile system was introduced by TeleYemen to cover the
cities Aden, Sana`a and Taiz.
April 1993
A new no-break power system was installed to replace the old one. Also
a Card phone service was introduced in Aden. Also, the first Intelsat
Indian Ocean Region Digital IDR E/S was launched.
May
1993
A
new cellular mobile exchange was introduced in Sana`a with
considerable expansion of cell sites in Sana`a and Hodeidah. Also a
new IDR Standard-A earth station was launched upgrading the old
Standard-A to a fully digital system. The capacity of the
international telephone exchange was also upgraded.
June 1993
A
new mobile exchange was introduced in Mukaalla with two cell sites in
Mukalla and Al-shehair.
September 1996
For
the first time in Yemen, TeleYemen introduced the Internet service for
Yemeni people , it was called Ynet service .
July 1997
Home
Direct service inaugurated to 11 different countries
October 1997
A
new , second , International Telephone Exchange was opened to provide
increased capacity and diversity for Yemen's International Telephone
traffic.
May
2000
Dawli
Prepaid Calling Card Service was introduced. The service allows the
public to make International telephone calls from any telephone
without the need to subscribe or pay monthly bills.
2001
Arabsat E/Station was upgraded to Digital IDR E/S.
June 2002
New Ericsson International Switch Center (ISC3) was installed to
replace the old Neax 61k. ISC3 was introduced to provide diversity and
restoration for the international telephone traffic.

2002
TeleYemen Call Center & IVR system was launched, it provide customers
with Online billing, Teleyemen service enquiries and complains.
January 2003
TeleYemen prepaid internet cards “Easy Access” was introduced.
January 2004
TeleYemen
has
signed an
agreement
for
five years with
France Telecom
to
operate TeleYemen's management.
June 2004
TeleYemen announced Significant IDD tariff reductions up to 50%.
March
2005 MBN1
TeleYemen has launched My Best Numbers service, which offers 25%
discount with your favorite one calling number abroad.
April 2005 Booster Service
TeleYemen has launched Y.net Booster to speed up the internet for 3
times faster, and new e-mail salutations.
August 2005 TeleYemen and Post Office relation
You
can pay your outstanding bills through Post Offices, either by
visiting any Post Offices in any where in the country (Yemen), or by
using the e-rail service, which is connected through the internet.
